September 2016

Today I found the first conker of the year! The natural world has officially declared it Autumn, which means we can immediately desist with this September heatwave nonsense, thank you.

All hail the conker-y hero

Seriously, what is this 30 degree hell, it's supposed to be knitwear season people.

Wonderful Washcloths

While I try to think of a good Halloween pun to work into a cartoon, let's talk about last month's project.

There are a great number of knitted washcloth patterns in the world but I finally caved and knitted my own. As much as I hate to admit it the great Christmas knit 2016 is upon us and a small knitted item + a nice bar of soap (I went to Marseille this year so I have some very nice soaps) will make excellent gifts.

Knitted Patches

There was very little research involved before I chose to knit the cloths in cotton. I briefly considered linen yarn but after play with a couple of sample patches (cotton is blue, linen is green) I decided that the cotton yarn was a) much more attractive when knitted up b) a softer texture when wet c) much more easily available in d) more colours. That said I actually liked the slightly rougher texture of the wet linen patch (yay exfoliation) and may be making a quick and easy scrub mitt for myself.

I'm also really happy with how neatly the charts knitted up and feel the photo I used for the pattern doesn't really capture it so here are some close-ups.
